How To Configure Advanced Contact Synchronization for OneSync:

This How To guide will walk you through making Advanced configuration settings for Contact Synchronization using OneSync. If you have not already done so, it is recommended that you first review the Basic Contact Synchronization How To guide in order to determine if one of the three predefined Contact Synchronization configurations will work for you: How To Configure Basic Contact Synchronization for OneSync

To continue on with the Advanced configuration...

1. Start SyncCell and click 'Settings' from the menu buttons on the main screen:

2. The 'Settings & Options' dialog window will appear. Click the 'Contacts (Advanced)' configuration tab at the top of the 'Settings & Options' dialog box:

3. Locate the 'Synchronize Contacts during OneSync' checkbox on the 'Contacts (Advanced)' tab of the 'Settings & Options' dialog window. Notice that below the checkbox there are two sections,

  • 'OneSync Settings - FROM Client TO Device'
  • 'OneSync Settings - FROM Device TO Client'.

Go ahead and select the checkbox. This will cause the two related 'OneSync Settings' sections to display further configuration options as demonstrated in the following image:

We'll take a look at the two 'OneSync Settings' sections in turn during the following steps.

4. OneSync Settings - FROM Client TO Device

In this section we'll make the configuration changes for contacts that will sync Contacts FROM your Outlook Client TO your Mobile Device.

4-a: First, locate the 'Client Category' setting. In the textbox provided, type the name of the Outlook Category you have assigned to the Contacts you wish to sync FROM Outlook TO your Mobile Device.

If you wish to sync ALL of your contacts from Outlook to your Mobile Device, please review the
How To Configure Basic Contact Synchronization for OneSync
How To guide, which covers predefined Contact synchronization scenarios.

For an explanation of using Categories for Contact synchronization, please review the

How To guide.

4-b: Next, locate the 'Device Category' setting. Here you will tell SyncCell what Category to assign synchronized Contacts to on your Mobile Device.

Click on the selection button to the left of the textbox...

The 'Choose a Mobile Device Category' dialog window will appear...

Use your mouse to select which Category you want to use and then click the 'OK' button to close the dialog window.

If you don't see the Category that you would like to use, please review the following How To guide:
How To Configure Categories for your Mobile Device

4-c: The last thing we'll look at in the 'FROM Client TO Device' section is the Replace vs. Add selection choice. Locate the 'Replace All in Category' and 'Add to Category Only' options.

- Replace All in Category - Choose this option if you want to Replace all Contacts in the selected Mobile Device Category with the Contacts from the selected Outlook Client Category. Only those Contacts in the chosen Categories will be affected. All other Contacts will remain unchanged.

- Add to Category Only - Choose this option if you only want to Add Contacts to the selected Mobile Device Category from the selected Outlook Client Category. No Mobile Device Contacts will be deleted.

5. OneSync Settings - FROM Device TO Client

In this section we'll make the configuration changes for Contacts that will sync FROM your Mobile Device TO your Outlook Client.

5-a: First, locate the 'Client Category' setting in the top half of the 'FROM Device TO Client' section. The Client Category here will be the Category that you selected in step 4-a above. This Category will be assigned the Contacts that you wish to sync FROM your Mobile Device TO your Outlook Client.

For an explanation of using Categories for Contact synchronization, please review the
How To Configure Categories for your Mobile Device
How To guide.

5-b: Next, locate the two synchronization options in the top half of the 'FROM Device TO Client' section.

- Never sync to client - Choose this option if you wish to never synchronize Contacts from your Mobile Device to your Outlook Client.

- Add to client from this Device Category - Choose this option if you want new Contacts found in the chosen Category to be added to your Outlook Client. No Contacts on the Outlook Client will be deleted. To change the selected Category, click the button located directly under the option...

The 'Choose a Mobile Device Category' dialog window will appear...

Use your mouse to select which Category you want to use and then click the 'OK' button to close the dialog window. Note that you can choose to select 'ALL' as an option.

If you don't see the Category that you would like to use, please review the following How To guide:
How To Configure Categories for your Mobile Device

5-c: The bottom half of the 'FROM Device TO Client' section deals with unnamed numbers that were dialed or received on the Mobile Device. Locate the 'Client Category' setting in the bottom half of the 'FROM Device TO Client' section. In the textbox provided, type the name of the Outlook Category you wish to receive the unnamed numbers on your Mobile Device. Please refer to your Outlook documentation if you wish to set up a new Outlook Category.

Now locate the related checkbox options to the right of the 'Client Category' selection in the bottom half of the 'FROM Device TO Client' section...

If you do not wish to synchronize unnamed numbers on your Mobile Device, leave both of the checkboxes unchecked. Otherwise choose one or both of the unnamed numbers options:

- Received Calls with No Name Match - select this option if you wish to save to your Outlook Client any received calls on your Mobile Device that have no matching names. Numbers will be saved in the chosen Client Category.

- Dialed Calls with No Name Match - select this option if you wish to save to your Outlook Client any dialed numbers on your Mobile Device that have no matching name. Numbers will be saved in the chosen Client Category.
